Review: DreamGirls the Musical a hit in DFW!
Working in the media has it’s moments, good and bad, but many of them are good. For one, I enjoy getting the heads up on events and the first dibs on tickets that [may] come with them.
So, on last Wednesday I had a chance to see DreamGirls and decided to take my mother with me. It was opening night. We loved it, and the fact that it didn’t deviate from the actual movie (in case any of you, who did see it, wondered about that as I did). What I like most about it?? Well…
*as one who thinks laughter is good for the soul-all the time!-I was diggin’ Chester Gregory, who played Jimmy ‘Thunder’ Early. He had enough energy to pass around the theater and was on top of his game!
*as a diva who loves clothes (and lawdy I LOVE shoes!) I anticipated the outfits as I’m fascinated by the 60s and 70s fashion eras. Some were out there -with wings-but many of em were really cute. I especially like the one scene of the DreamGirls shedding clothes with the quickness, while performing. Blink and you’d miss the 3 outfits in about 2 minutes!
*The ladies-Deena, Effie and Lorrell were good together on stage. And, diva Moya Angela, who played Effie White, was sangin’! (Note: some of you may go on a night where Patrice Covington as Effie)
Oh, just one thing, though. Once you get settled inside the Music Hall theater you’ll find it’s a bit nippy, so if you’re cold-natured, don’t show up in sleeveless or too little attire.
And, some folks have short attention spans. So, I must also tell you that this requires you to sit through about 2 1/2 hrs of musical action. But you get a 15 minute intermission so go grab a sugar rush-drinks and snacks.
But still, it’s all good!
Hope you get a chance to see the musical before its run in Dallas ends July 18th.
