None of us expected the Mavs to make any noise in Thursday night’s NBA draft. Not with holding only a 5oth overall pick they wouldn’t. But during the draft watch party held for media and minutes before the Memphis Grizzlies made their pick at 25, word was seeping from the Mavs’ draft room that a move would likely be made to get the right to the player selected.
The Grizzlies took South Florida Guard, Dominique Jones, and then it was official minutes later. With owner Mark Cuban’s cash, Mavs General Manager and President Donnie Nelson decided to step their game up for Jones at a cool $3 million dollar price. Read more…

It’s game six tonight in San Antonio. The Mavs pulled out a nice game five win at home to stave off elimination, but still have their backs against the wall. Surely the Spurs would love to put them out in six and rest before moving on the face another opponent in round two. The Dallas Mavericks let second year player George Hill go upside their head and through their defense. Even with less than stellar production from Tim Duncan, Manu Ginobili, and Tony Parker, Hill’s 29 points turned into a 92-89 win over the Mavs. For more click here

He was in a zone. Dirk Nowitzki was straight butter, hitting 2 of his 14 attempts from the field, and was 12-12 from the free throw line. None of the coverages that Spurs coach Gregg Popovich tried to use to take #41 out of the game worked. Along with Caron Butler’s 22, the Dallas Mavericks take a 1-0 series lead with the 100-94 win.
